Priory Insurance Brokers was founded in 1973, by Trevor Whitmore who commenced business in a small Office in King Street, Thetford, Norfolk.

Shortly after this, they moved to larger premises in Thetford and in 1978 Jonathan Briggs joined the Company. Jon is now a Director of Priory having over 30 years experience in almost all forms of Insurance and is currently specialising in the Corporate and Commercial sectors.

During the 1980’s, Priory expanded its office network into Beccles in Suffolk and shortly after to Norwich and Wymondham in Norfolk.

Mark Whitmore joined the Company in 1990 and after heading the Personal Lines & Special Risks Division, as Director, became Managing Director in 2009.

In 2006, a review of the way Insurance was now transacted was undertaken and as a result of improvements in technology and the way the public viewed insurance, Priory decided that the way forward was to concentrate its business activities under one roof and undertook the major expansion of their centrally located offices in Wymondham. This expansion was completed in early 2007.

This now provides a Centre of Excellence for both Commercial and Personal Lines Insurances, benefiting from up to date computer technology and staff skilled and knowledgeable in all the classes of insurance available to clients.


We arrange cover for a very wide spectrum of corporate clients and our in depth knowledge ensures we place the correct cover for your protection.

We have a very close relationship with many large Insurers and the Lloyds Insurance market which enables us to seek the required insurance products at competitive rates of premium on behalf of our clients.

Our staff receive continuous training, so they are kept up to date with changes that occur in the insurance and business environment.

Our Specialist Divisions ensure that the Corporate Client receives personal attention and has a dedicated account handler.

Technology allows us to deliver quotations within minutes in many cases. Point of Sale documentation means that we can issue a policy at our office.

Priory Finance was formed in 2000 and offers the extended facility for clients to pay insurance premiums on a monthly basis. Plans can be flexible and tailored to clients needs.
